Travel diaries, 1831, 1841, 1843.

Consists of four journals describing three trips taken by Clapp from Boston to New York City, Washington, D.C., and Niagara Falls. The first two volumes are identified by Clapp as Journal, no. 2 and Journal, no.3 of his venture to New York City, where he went with business partner Henry Hull on a boat called the Boston. Clapp wrote at length about what he encountered on board: entertainment by a black band, difficulties trying to sleep, strangers, the approach to New York's harbor, and meals. In New York, Clapp stayed at the Franklin Hotel and visited Peale's museum, the Castle Garden at the Battery, many churches, the Market, and what he described as the large Methodist printing establishment. The third volume, written in 1841, describes a trip to Washington, D.C. and features a tally of expenses. Among the places he went was the chamber of the House of Representatives. Finally, volume four is an account of a journey Clapp and his wife took to Niagara Falls. Travelling by rail, the two changed trains frequently and befriended a foreign clergyman and his wife on the way. At Niagara Falls, they stayed in a temperance hotel. Clapp writes about the falls with awe, remarking that it was truly one of God's wonders.
